Ben-David uses historical associations to convey messages
in our time. 'Horse power' in the fifteenth century reflected
the wealth and standing of the owners, and the equestrian statue
stood for absolute power as do the sleek racing cars and limousines
of the present day.
In taking the anatomy of the horse as a flat, annotated
drawing - the inclusion of key letters is important to Ben-David
- and placing it on a tall and grandiose pedestal, might he
be mocking progress or tickling irony.
