Man has remained, as Schopenhauer said, "a metaphysical animal". Ben-David has united these experiences in his sculpture, an experience as described by Aristotle in his "Metaphysics".

"All human beings strive instinctively for knowledge. Clear evidence of this is the love for sensory perceptions. Quite apart from their practical value, they are enjoyed for themselves - this is particularly true of our visual sense. We give sight priority over everything, not only when we have something important to do, but also when we intend to do nothing.

The reason for this is that this sense best enables us to recognise things and to make clear distinctions.....and man lives by Art and contemplation. However, experience is the product of memories;
But then many different memories of the same subject matter combine to give us our one "experience" of that subject..... And Art is produced when many observations of that experience develop into a general impression of similar facts"
